morgen or der Morgen?

a1

The same word, two meanings, separated only by capitalisation: lower-case morgen is the day after today, capital der Morgen is the part of the day before noon. Combining them gives morgen früh - never morgen Morgen.

morgen

An adverb for the next day, lower case and never inflected. Plus übermorgen for the day after that.

Morgen habe ich frei.I have the day off tomorrow.

der Morgen

A noun for roughly six to ten o’clock. As a time expression usually am Morgen or morgens.

Am Morgen trinke ich immer Kaffee. In the morning I always drink coffee.

The mistake

Wir treffen uns morgen Morgen um acht.

Wir treffen uns morgen früh um acht.

There is a fixed phrase for the early part of tomorrow: morgen früh. The doubling sounds as wrong to German ears as “tomorrow morning morning” does in English.

Rule of thumb

Capitalised it is a time of day, lower case it is a day. And for both together there is exactly one phrase: morgen früh.
